Your Tour
Begin your exploration of Copper Country with a short and comfortable van ride along Alaska's first highway. Trained naturalists will guide you for a hike through the forest, exploring native vegetation, landscapes, bird-watching, and looking for signs of animals. Most hikes are 1/2 mile, are easy, on developed trails to the Tonsina Bluff. Learn what plants are good to eat and which were used for medicine and herbs. Discover how plate tectonics and volcanic forces shaped the basin and, weather permitting, marvel at massive volcanic mountains that dominate our skyline.
At the bluff overlooking the glacial Tonsina River, learn about the salmon that are racing to certain death to bring life to the next generation. At our prospector camp, experience an interactive presentation on the local wildlife and enjoy Alaskan made snacks while learning how locals harvest and store wild foods for the long winter ahead. Learn what it was like to live in wild Alaska in a tent when temperatures reached -60 degrees. With this small group tour, your naturalist will be able to give you personal attention and a chance for all your senses to experience the unique place we call home!
